Why experience is local and limited, but You are not
Jul 6, 2023
If I am Pure Consciousness, why do I only have access to this experience? To the experience associated with this body? Limited to this point in time and space?
This question comes up when the realization of what you truly are hasn't hit home yet.
When experience is taken as the primary piece of evidence, then that experience is always local and limited. You're using something transient, passing, illusory, to establish an identity.
And what can that identity be other than transient and local and limited?
Now listen to the viewpoint of the Enlightened.
All experience is being had by You.
All experience that has passed, or is yet to come, is being experienced by You.
All experience in this life, or any other life, in this universe, or any other universe, is being experienced by You.
The "You" here refers to what You truly are.
Pure Consciousness.
Non-local.
Unlimited.
Infinite.
These words may seem incomprehensible to you-the-person. Because the identity with which you are receiving these words is built by the mind. The words pass through the filters of the brain, the conceptual palace of the mind, before You listen to them.
And in the mind's palace, on the throne sits this "I" thought.
The idea that this I-thought, this conceptual "I", is what is being addressed here, ruins the words. The meaning of the words.
So, first let's look at where this I-thought gets its credibility from. How it gained authority to sit on the throne.
This I-thought, the belief in being an individual person; a limited self entity, all comes and relies on the passing experiences.
If you say, "How do I know I am?" The mind will point to the experience in this moment. That is the foundation of this identity.
The transient and local and limited identity. It is dependent on the existence of experience.
And that is why the greatest fear of the mind, what fills it with existential dread, is the idea of a state where there will never be any experience, ever. The idea of death.
But it should already be clear that this local and limited I did not exist previously. This I is what has appeared.
Therefore, this I is unreal. This I is the dream.
There is no dream world without a dream character.
This character and the world together constitute the dream.
Let this identity go. Let it step down from the throne, and then consider the real proof of Your true Identity.
The proof is not this local and limited experience.
It is the fact that this experience depends on You. Appears to You.
That if there was truly no You, this experience would cease to be. Could never be.
When experience appears, it appears to You.
When the I-thought appears, it appears to You.
In the state in which it appears, there is no I-thought, no experience, no mind, and no concepts.
That is Pure Consciousness. That is You.
The mind may not like to hear this, but it is so.
The mind appears to You, You do not appear to the mind.
All experience is being had by You.
All experience that has ever been had, all lives in all universes, all the pain, and misery, and suffering, all the atrocities are committed upon You.
But all the joy, and the love, and the peace is also Yours.
In the absence of the mind, You are the Peace.
The Wholeness.
The Completion.
The Union of Love.
The mind is the suffering.
Let it comprehend this and go into quietude.
