Contemplation
To be aware is to be the Aware-ness | A Nondual Meditation
Jul 24, 2025
Meditate on yourself.
Treat all thoughts as strangers on the street. They do not know you. They cannot describe who you are.
Just walk past the thoughts as if they were strangers on a crowded street.
What is here besides the thinking?
Put aside any conceptual or acquired knowledge. What is here besides that conceptual layer of thought? What is here as You besides that stream of thought?
The names, the concepts, the memories, beliefs — treat them all as strangers on a crowded street.
What's here besides them?
You could say this experience. The experience of this moment surely cannot be denied.
Without giving different names to what is being perceived in this moment, Without breaking it down for analysis, taken as a whole, this experience cannot be denied.
But taken as a whole, experience is not experience.
What was perceived in the previous moment is no more. But what was real and undeniable about that moment has remained and is present even now.
Experience is not experience.
Experience is Awareness.
All dimensions of experience, all facets and aspects of perception are, in fact, inseparable from Awareness.
We are not just replacing one word with another.
Walk past the words.
Go deeper.
The lack of experience is not the absence of Awareness. It is from the lack of experience that its presence is first noticed. Therefore, the absence of experience is not the absence of Awareness.
The absence of experience is also Awareness.
Seeing how fundamental Awareness is to existence and even inexistence, who is it that claims Awareness as its possession?
The thing that claims to be aware is only a passing thought. A passing stranger on the street.
There can be nothing in experience as a part or as a whole that can be the thing that is aware.
Because experience is not experience.
Experience is Awareness.
There can be no experience of Awareness.
Because the absence of experience is also Awareness.
There can be no awareness of Awareness.
You can only be aware of being aware.
To be aware is to be the Aware-ness.
You are not you.
You are this Awareness.
Awareness is not awareness.
Aware-ness is the true meaning of I.
The actual Self, the true Self.
Leaving aside all beliefs and concepts, treating all thoughts as passing strangers on a quiet street, what remains true?
Just You.
This Aware-ness.
